SECRETARIAT CIRCULAR No.17.

GOVERNMENT QUARTERS AND ALLOWANCES IN LIEU

OF QUARTERS.

The attention of Heads of Departments is called to the

attached amendment to Genoral Orders which will be retrospective

to 1st May, 1946.

2.

Where applicable, retrospective adjustments should be included

in departmental pay-sheets for the month of February.

3. With regard to General Orders 108 (2) and 113 as amended,

the provisions of Secreteriat Circulars Nos.65/46, 111/46,

121/46 and 7/47 will continue in ferce for the time being.

4. This amendment must be considered as temporary only.

Part IV of General Orders is hereby deleted and

the following substituted therefor:

INTERPRETATION.

106. In this Part -

(a)

"Dependants" means the dependants of a male officer, namely his wife, sons under 18 years of age and unmarried daughters,

or any of them, who reside with him, or whom he is liable to maintain;

"entitled" means entitl●d under the terms of an officer's employment or a General Order;

officer" means an ●fficer personally resident in this Colony, and does not include a married woman or a dependant; (d) "quarters" means a tenement owned er rented by the Government; (e) "rent" means monthly rent or, in relation to a tenement owned

and occupied by an officer or to ledgings under a contract for board and lodging, a sum fixed by the Assessor, and includes rates paid by an officer as tenant;

"rent allowance" means the monthly allowance referred to in General Order 109.

B QUARTERS AND RENT AND OTHER ALLOWANCES.

107. Allotment of Quartors.

{1} Quarters not for the time being reserved for the holders of

particular posts may be allotted to officers on sterling salaries attached to the permanent pensionable est: blishment either singly or with others, by the Government in its absolute discretion with or without the advice and assistance of committees appointed for that purpose by the Governor.

Committees shall have regard, firstly, to the priorities out out in this Order and, secondly, to number of dependants, length of service and the convenience of officers and their dependants as well as of the Government.

The order of priority for holders of the posts and members of the services in Appendix VI, whether paid at the rates set out or not, shall be -

substantive holders of senior super-scale posts;

substantive holders of posts of which the fixed salary r the commencing salary is not less than £1,000, and ⚫fficers en other scales, having not less than 10 years service, who are actually in receipt of a salary of net less than £1,000.
